The homeowner couples are board game lovers. In this project, we used "Board Game" as the design starting point and successfully created a comfortable and tidy dream home for the board game super fan.
The apartment is decorated in a minimalist yet functional Nordic style with bright and simple tones, such as white, light brown and grey, and light-coloured wood elements which results in a natural and calm atmosphere.
The homeowner couple often invite family and friends to come and play various board games, and each time there would be around 15 people participating in the gathering. Therefore, having enough storage and entertaining space are very important. The living room and dining room are connected by a white TV wall and a set of light-coloured wooden cabinets to create visual extension and sense of space. The designer spent a lot of time designing the lighting effects. In addition to the two modest circular ceiling lights, the designer installed LED lights and light troughs along the cabinets, the display cabinets as well as the kitchen door. The subtle lighting effect can change the ambience of space. These luminaries transform both the living room and dining room into a board game café, providing a relaxed and cozy gathering place for the homeowner couple to enjoy the fun of board games.
Every move in the board game has to be carefully considered and planned before it is placed on the game board. The designer cleverly integrated this element into different corners of the living room and dining room. Like the wall-mounted display cabinets with wooden frames, or the tall display cabinet between two cabinets, all of them are well planned to be displayed in an embedded manner. Together with the soft lighting effect, the entire living room gives people a perfect display experience. The wall behind the display cabinets is decorated with light-coloured dotted tiles, which is an analogy of board game players’ thinking and brainstorming processes during the game.
In terms of interior space, the designer demolished the wall of kid’s room and replaced it with a wardrobe partition wall. The wardrobe partition wall has passed the sound insulation test and its sound insulation ability is not inferior to that of the real wall. More importantly, the wardrobe partition wall greatly increases the room’s storage space. In order to provide extra storage, a platform flooring was installed in the master room. The platform flooring creates a large number of hidden storage as well as shortening the distance between the actual floor and the window sill. The designer turned this space into a good place to display the homeowners’ favourite cuddly toys. The master room also features various Nordic-style natural elements. The light-coloured wooden furniture and grey marble-patterned bed base add different visual effects and bring harmonious Nordic atmosphere and characters to the room.
